New Zealand is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The environment of New Zealand is characterized by an endemic flora and fauna which has evolved in near isolation from the rest of the world. It consists of two main landmasses—the North Island and the South Island —and over 700 smaller islands. Its capital is Wellington.
